The north face of Mont Maudit, with the long traversing path just visible to the right of the centre of the picture.

The photo was taken from Col Maudit, where we had stopped to put on extra layers during the ascent. The path goes around the back of the ice in the foreground, then crosses the face of Mont Maudit gently rising to the Bergschrund at the base of the slope up to Col du Mont Maudit, the flat snowy ridge on the skyline. The climb up to the col was one of the most exciting sections of the ascent, involving front-pointing up the 50-60° slope.
